There are a lot of K-pop idols entering the acting scene, and some of them have proven that they have the potential to succeed in acting, similar to other idols who did it first such as EXO's D.O, Infinite's L, SNSD's Yoona, and many others. They have broken the stereotypes that idol actors cannot act, and we are surely waiitng for their next acting gigs.
SF9 Hwiyoung
SF9 is already known for having members like Rowoon (Extraordinary You, She Would Never Know) and Chani (Sky Castle, Imitation, Signal) who can act really well, but they also have underrated gems, such as their youngest member Hwiyoung.
Hwiyoung's first acting gig was in 2016 with Click Your Heart, a web drama with his fellow SF9 members and the girl group AOA who is under the same company as theirs. Soon after, he appeared in dramas such as Dokgobin is Updating (2020), The Mermaid Prince: The Beginning (2020), and Replay: The Moment (2021).
He joined his fellow member Chani in Imitation, a KBS drama about the different struggles of working idols in the Korean entertainment industry. He has been known to pull off roles that require innocence, youthfulness, and vigor and we are anticipating his next projects.
The Boyz Younghoon
The Boyz is a group known throughout Korea and the world for their lack of visual holes -- meaning, all members are strikingly hansome. There is no designated visual unlike other K-Pop groups because they can all fit the role. Younghoon is a member of the Bermuda Line along with members Juyeon and Hyunjae, who are known for their dazzling visuals. With visuals like this, we know that they should be actors next.
Younghoon's first drama was Love Revolution alongside Park Jihoon (of Wanna One fame), and despite having a lot of rookie actors around him, he managed to pull off his role effortlessly. He's perfect for school-themed dramas because he has the charisma and the visuals of everyone's first love back when they were in high school. We are surely waiting for his upcoming projects as he has tons of potential to make it big.
(G)-IDLE Minnie
(G)-IDLE is known for their charismatic performances in their every comeback stage, and while everyone's eyes are on Yuqi, Soyeon, and Miyeon, Minnie has successfully carved her identity for being a great comedic actress in her first acting gig.
She starred alongside GOT7 Youngjae, model Han Hyunmin, and many others in the hit Netflix sitcom So Not Worth It. Her Korean was surprisingly fluent, without any words botched due to pronunciation, and she can clearly express her emotions well. Her chemistry with Youngjae was also noticed by fans, and she will be forever remembered for her kimchi slap scene in the drama. We can easily see her follow the footsteps of other idol actors in the near future!
SF9 Inseong
Indeed, SF9 is a multi-talented group. Aside from Hwiyoung, we also have Inseong. He entered the acting industry the same time as Hwiyoung, appearing in dramas such as Click Your Heart, Dokgobin is Updating, Was It Love?, and 20th Century Boy and Girl.
Aside from dramas, he is also active in the musical scene, having taken roles from musicals such as Red Book with Kim Sejong and The Days alongside Bang Minah of Girls Day and Yang Yoseob of Highlight. Musical actors are known to be superb in acting skills and Inseong is no exception.
WEi Kim Yohan
Even though his project group X1 didn't hit the gears full throttle, Kim Yohan has found his niche in the idol industry -- not only as a singer but also as a capable actor.
Yohan was casted for the lead role in the Korean remake of the Chinese drama A Love So Beautiful, which fans raved a lot. His acting chops were surprisingly decent and he successfully shed off his idol image to play the role of a doctor who met up with his first love.
We will see him again in another acting gig, as he is headlining the KBS drama School 2021. Even though they are still looking for more cast members, it will be definitely worth the wait.
