Blue House Releases Statement About Snowdrop

They mentioned that they will review the complaints filed but there is no firm decision for it yet.

In response to a national petition opposing the airing of JTBC's upcoming drama "Snowdrop," the Blue House has issued a statement.

The drama "Snowdrop," which will debut in the second part of this year, is set in Seoul in 1987. Jung Hae In plays Soo Ho, a famous university student who bursts into a female dorm drenched in blood one day. Jisoo of BLACKPINK portrays Young Cho, a university student who hides him and tends to his wounds despite danger and scrutiny. Kang Chung Ya, a surgeon at a state-run hospital, is played by Yoo In Na.

Concerns regarding a possible misrepresentation of historical facts were raised when parts of the summary circulated online. According to rumors at the time, the male lead was a spy who had infiltrated the activist movement. In contrast, another male role was a team leader at the Agency for National Security Planning (NSP) but was described as straightforward and just. 1987 was a pivotal year in South Korea's popular democracy movement, which led to the current republic's formation. At the time, the NSP would have been a component of the autocratic system.

To dispel the doubts, JTBC issued a brief statement in March describing the drama's content and aims and a more extensive statement in April giving specific plot details.

The petition against "Joseon Exorcist," which was canceled by SBS after two episodes due to concerns over alleged historical misrepresentation in the drama, is also included in the Blue House statement.

They say that as much as they appreciate the citizens' proactiveness in calling out such dramas, they do not have enough power to interfere directly to the production of the drama. On the other hand, Joseon Exorcist was voluntarily scrapped by SBS following 5,000 daily complaints against the drama sent to the Blue House. Regardless, they will review the complaints and try to come up with a solution as soon as possible. The statement ended in thanking the citizens for their petitions.
