When Super Junior’s Eunhyuk showed off his new digs on the KBS show Mr. House Husband 2, he admitted that he lives there with his parents. It’s the first time he and his parents are together under one roof since Eunhyuk became a trainee.
Normally, reuniting with one’s family would be cause for celebration, but Eunhyuk moved back in with his father and mother for a sad reason.
His mother was diagnosed with interstitial pneumonia, a disease caused when the tissue in one’s lungs becomes inflamed and scarred. Interstitial pneumonia can cause bad coughing, shortness of breath, and tiredness, among other uncomfortable symptoms.
According to Eunhyuk, his mother’s doctors said she only has 37% of her lung function remaining. They reportedly advised him and his father to prepare for the worst because she may not live for much longer. Even if she were to get a lung transplant, that procedure would only buy her an additional seven years at most.
Instead of looking for a cure, Eunhyuk decided to focus on improving his mother’s quality of life—which is why he bought a comfortable home and outfitted it with a stair lift, among other helpful appliances.
He’s determined to do right by his parents after living away from them for almost 20 years.
“I’m planning on doing my best to be a good son,” he said.
