Girls Generation's Hyoyeon talks about her members and music

She's promoting her new single "Second," which is an absolute bop!

Last August 25, Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon appeared on the MBC FM4U radio show Kim Shin Young Hope Song at Noon to promote her new single “Second.”

Aside from talking about her comeback, Hyoyeon shared certain stories about her agency SM Entertainment and her fellow artists, including the iconic girl group Girls’ Generation. According to Hyoyeon, of everyone in the group, she was the was the first one who joined SM Entertainment. She even became a trainee before anyone in Super Junior—their all-male counterpart—did. Furthermore, she once had SM Entertainment shares, but she sold them all already.

During her conversation with DJ Kim Shin Young, Hyoyeon admitted that she regrets selling her shares because their latest projected prices are more than double the amount she got for them five years ago. She also revealed how she feels when people call her “the next SM Entertainment director.”

Of all the agency’s artists, BoA and Kangta of H.O.T. are the only ones who aren’t executive directors. Hyoyeon and Lee Soo Man have a father-daughter relationship. He recently filmed a video for her “Second” dance challenge, so netizens believe that becoming a director of the agency he founded in 1995 is a natural progression for her.

However, Hyoyeon feels differently. “I'm sure that all of the artists in my generation have thought about such things. When there are company-wide dinners, there are a select few who always sit next to Lee Soo Man sunsaengnim, like SHINee’s Minho, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, and TVXQ’s Changmin. When I see them sitting over there, I feel like I have a long, way to go. Super Junior’s Heechul goes back and forth. He walks around. Actually, I think he’s the closest to Lee Soo Man sunsaengnim.”

As the conversation went on, it inevitably touched on Girls’ Generation. DJ Kim Shin Young mentioned that Sooyoung, one of Hyoyeon’s members, revealed her first impressions of everyone in the group when she posted a new video on her personal YouTube channel. She asked Hyoyeon if she was willing to respond to what Sooyoung said about her. (You can watch Sooyoung's YouTube video below.)

Hyeoyeon said, “I saw the video. When she was a trainee, Sooyoung was considered one of SM Entertainment’s representative visuals. Back then she was called ‘the second Jun Jihyun’ because she was pure and pretty. But she was actually a slightly tan version of Jun Jihyun at the time.”

Fans of Hyoyeon, Sooyoung, and the rest of Girls Generation will be able to see them together again when they appear on tvN’s variety show You Quiz On The Block on September 1 at 8:40 PM KST. It will be their first appearance as a complete group (with all the eight members present and accounted for) in four years.

Netizens can’t wait to see how much the members have grown since then. They’re also eager to hear what stories the girls will share and how they will interact with each other when their highly-anticipated reunion takes place.
