This year has been a rollercoaster ride for OnlyOneOf.
After setting the industry ablaze with their sexy song “Libido,” the boy group formed by RSVP (a subsidiary of 8D Creative) lost a member when their leader and main vocalist Love decided to terminate his contract.
In a statement, the agency said, “Love has decided to wrap up his team activities as a member of OnlyOneOf. His termination is being processed after a well-rounded discussion. We are sorry to relay such news to the fans who have been supporting the group. We ask for you to refrain from spreading false information and speculations regarding Love’s departure, as this is the member's personal business.”
The agency’s words didn’t satisfy the group’s fans, who trended hashtags like #8D_Explain_No_Silence to make their feelings known, in addition to writing a statement of their own.
“Just a week ago, there was an event centered around all seven members of the group, and Love also updated fans as if preparing for his upcoming schedules. Furthermore, the wording of 8D Creative’s statement, which stated that they will be ‘restructuring all of OnlyOneOf's activities for the second half of 2021’ has raised suspicions that Love’s departure was the result of an unexpected, unforeseen circumstance,” the fans wrote.
They added that many fans couldn’t understand why the agency and Love himself refused to say why he left the team. “We’re wondering whether or not this member’s departure from the group was truly his wish and if there were legitimate negotiations between the two parties.”
They also asked 8D Creative to give them information on OnlyOneOf's group Bubble service and how refunds would be carried out. But instead of acknowledging the fans’ concerns, the agency declared that the group would go on hiatus to prepare for a six-member comeback.
Finally, after almost a month of radio silence from the group, they kicked off their comeback last September 1 by posting a teaser. It featured a dramatic black and white photo of Yoojung, complete with a caption that went, “I know you’re lonely. I think you need someone to want you. I do want you. So be brave and Want me back.”
They followed that teaser with another black and white photo featuring Nine. This one also came with a caption that said, “That's the great thing about the universe, Unpredictable.”
They have since released a group photo and an MV for “mOnO (unknown ballad 2.3),” which was filmed on the set of their comeback photoshoot. The MV was accompanied by the words, “Hoping our returning steps right now are a bigger desire.”
