Oscar award-winning actress Youn Yuh Jeong was named Time magazine's most influential people of 2021, joining the roster of A-list celebrities Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (Duke and Duchess of Sussex), U.S. President Joe Biden, Scarlett Johansson, Elon Musk, and more.
According to Edward Felsenthal Chief Editor and CEO of TIME, the list highlights emerging leaders who continue to shape the future despite the present global pandemic. “Everyone on this list is poised to make history,” added Dan Macsai, editorial director of the TIME.
In a short introduction, famed actor and producer Steven Yeun, a fellow Korean celebrity who made it to the list said, Jeong is one of those people who has a different level of confidence, “it feels like a confidence born from a deep sense of self.” he mentioned. “Yuh Jung’s career and life would know that her entire existence has been a protest against the boxes that tried to trap her. From navigating and breaking through societal expectations to playing fully realized (and deeply human) characters on the screen, she has forged a path that only she could have.”
Earlier this year, Jeong made history as the first Korean actress to win an Oscar acting award for the movie Minari, which generated a lot of buzz in the world film scene. The movie was also nominated for best picture, best director, best original score, and best original screenplay.
"I've only done what I've always done, and it's been a year of overeating praise. I'm amazed at the news that I've been voted time's "100 most influential people of the year." Jeong Yuh Jeong said in a statement released by her company.
Jeong who was chosen under the category ‘Titans’ is joined by American gymnast Simon Biles, Apple CEO Tim Cook, TV producer Shonda Rhimes and seven other newsmakers of 2021.
