On March 20, MBC's True Story Expedition Team reported on Ji Soo's school violence allegations.
Several claimed victims were interviewed for the show, and they each spoke about their experiences. One of Ji Soo's middle school friends, referred to in the program as "A," stated that Ji Soo had frequently instructed him to purchase him bread and snacks from the school cafeteria, and that he had to pay for them with his own money. "He'd set a timer, like one or two minutes, and if I didn't make it back in time, he'd smack me," A explained.
"He would call my cellphone and say to me, 'You know you have to bring money tomorrow, right?'" A went on to relate. It began modest, with 5,000 won (about $4.4), then to 10,000 won (roughly $8.8), and progressively increased to 100,000 won (approximately $88.5). With his bullying, he was quite vicious. He had me do his quizzes and midterms for him for quizzes and midterms."
"He would kick me in the buttocks or thighs, smack me on the head, slap my face, or punch me in the chest or pit of the stomach," said another middle school student, "B." He assigned me missions. For instance, getting up during class to sing or dance. I was essentially his clown. He sat in the back row in class, so when he slept, he used me as a shield. He slapped me on the back of the head if my stance was even slightly incorrect."
"We did report him," admitted A. The instructors, on the other hand, were not afraid of the bullies. That, I believe, was the most serious problem. They'd just bully another youngster, and then another kid, and the cycle would continue. Later, we came to believe that even if we reported them, nothing would change. So the youngsters haven't dared to report them since."
The show paid a visit to one of the victims' family members. "I was scrolling through TV stations when Ji Soo came on," the victim's mother explained. "So I said, 'That bastard,' and changed stations."
"I don't watch his dramas," stated the mother of another victim. It's dreadful. Even now, he gives me the creeps." She added that she had gone to talk with the school principal at the time and had been taken aback by the administrator's demeanor. "On their way out, the principal observed, 'They truly have so much time on their hands,'" her husband said. Is there nothing else they might be doing?" The mother also said that her child's homeroom teacher had contacted to propose that they relocate to avoid her child being sent to the same high school as Ji Soo.
The show's production crew then traveled to Ji Soo's middle school, where school employees said there was nothing they could tell them because a long period had gone and all of the instructors and staff from the time were no longer employed there.
Another middle school student, "C," reported that he and a buddy who had been bullied by Ji Soo ate cup noodles in front of a TV at school during lunch because they were frightened of running into Ji Soo in the cafeteria.
Ji Soo began as a bully in his class until he was recruited by a group of school delinquents in his second year and began wielding greater authority, according to two additional middle school classmates, "D" and "E." "It was really methodical," E explained. There was a group of delinquents, which included Kim Ji Soo, and then there were the youths that carried out the action. If you disagreed with them, you would be outcast by the entire grade or subjected to school violence."
"F," a middle school student, had a different take on the situation. "It is true that Ji Soo was a perpetrator of school violence, and he confessed it himself," he stated. But what about the portions that aren't true... I wanted to emphasize that he should only be punished for what he truly done." Regarding the allegation that Ji Soo pushed his male classmates to commit sexual activities, F stated, "From my recall, there's no way he'd do that." If something like that had happened, my classmates and friends would have heard about it."
F also indicated that he was confident he knew who the first accuser was, and that the initial accuser was a serious bully himself. "The boy who was the top bully in his first and second years became an outcast in his third year," F explained. He's blaming Kim Ji Soo for a lot of things that other kids have done to him."
Ji Soo's primary school friends were also met by the "True Story Expedition Team." "During a retreat, he did sexual things to several of the lads, and everyone in the same class saw it," one of them stated. We feigned not to notice in fear we were his next victim." "In primary school, I was just a victim of light sexual harassment and verbal abuse at first, but it became more intense as time went," another student explained. "I observed him masturbating in class."
"In addition to his formal letter of apology, Ji Soo is addressing the matter by repeatedly apologizing and begging for forgiveness from the victims he has gotten in touch with," Ji Soo's agency stated in a statement sent to the program. The agency reiterated that the allegations of sexual assault were false.
Ji Soo claimed in a written answer to the show, "During my school days, I hung around with a bunch of delinquents and mistakenly lived under the illusion that I had immense power in my hands." Claims that I shunned classmates, forced them to buy items, forced them to take my tests, or sexually harassed or attacked them are false. If you grant me the opportunity, I would like to sincerely apologize to all who have been harmed by my actions."
Ji Soo was fired from his major part in KBS2's "River Where the Moon Rises" as a result of the incident.
