Jung Ilhoon appeared in Seoul High Court for his marijuana charge on December 16.
Jung Ilhoon, along with seven other defendants, was charged with purchasing and smoking 826 grams (about 1.8 pounds) of marijuana using nearly 130 million won (approximately $116,500) over 161 occasions between July 5, 2016 and January 9, 2019.
Jung Ilhoon was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of 133 million won (about $119,200) in his first trial for breaching the Act on the Control of Narcotics, Etc. The sentence, however, was appealed by both Jung Ilhoon and the prosecution.
Jung Ilhoon, according to the court, smoked and bought marijuana numerous times over a long period of time. They did, however, take into account the fact that he voluntarily stopped buying and smoking marijuana in January 2019, that he had no criminal record, that he attempted to prevent recidivism by receiving psychiatric treatment and attending online drug addiction lectures, and that his family was willing to guide him because he has relatively well-maintained social ties.
