In a recent interview with News1, Kang Ha Neul discussed his next film "The Pirates: Goblin Flag."

"The Pirates: Goblin Flag," the sequel to the 2014 film "The Pirates," is a period action-adventure comedy about a crew of fortune-seekers who set sail for the high seas in search of hidden treasure. Kang Ha Neul, Han Hyo Joo, Lee Kwang Soo, EXO's Sehun, Chae Soo Bin, and Kwon Sang Woo feature in the film.

Woo Moo Chi, the leader of a band of outlaws who claims to be Goryeo's best swordsman, is played by Kang Ha Neul. "I really enjoyed the first film," he remarked. It's just so much fun to imagine yourself as a pirate. Because I liked the concept, I went to see 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'The Pirates' before I'd even heard it was good. The adventure genre appeals to me. I wanted to board the pirate ship as soon as I finished reading the script. I admired Hae Rang's performance. I felt it would be entertaining to argue with her."

Kang Ha Neul's character sported a distinctive hairstyle for his role. "Was there a change? " he chuckled. "I'm not sure if you've heard of 'The Ruler of the Land.'" Han Bi Kwang is a character that reminded me of Han Bi Kwang. When it comes to fighting, he's a natural, but he's awkward in other areas. However, I wanted to express a more free-spirited and daring side of me. I discussed the hair with the hair and makeup team, and the original plan was for long hair with long bangs. But I wanted to express more of that free spirit in his appearance, so we spoke about it a lot, including shaving his head."

"The perm was the most challenging part of playing Moo Chi," he continued. I had to have a perm every two weeks or so, and it took a long time, probably three to four hours each time. Going to the salon every two weeks and sitting there for four hours was exhausting. When I was filming, the perm was so tight that when I washed my hair, it wouldn't get wet. I had to force the water into my hair. My hair was falling out at the ends by the end."

"She was so wonderful at playing Hae Rang that I had no difficulty," he stated of working with Han Hyo Joo. Instead, I had a great time. I spent a lot of time thinking about how to act in such a manner that if Hae Rang performed in a specific way, it would appear natural and appropriate. That's why my character irritates Hae Rang so much while also saving my life."

"I didn't have a lot of scenes with her then," Kang Ha Neul said of their previous collaboration on the film "C'est si bon." In that film, she was the trio's muse. She was my inspiration, yet I was nothing to her. There weren't many scenes in which we met. I didn't want to bother her or get in her way because she had a lot of things to focus on in that movie, so I just watched her from afar. We met again on this assignment after some time had passed, and we hit it off immediately. In conversations and discussions, we were a good match."

Han Hyo Joo revealed in an interview that she wished Kang Ha Neul had complained more instead of putting his heart and soul into all of his pranks. "I complain a lot," Kang Ha Neul laughed. She was simply very gracious about it. That's something I'm appreciative for her saying. Of course, I don't think getting harmed on set is a good thing. I didn't reject to wear protective gear because I didn't want to get hurt. Of course, you should wear protectors on set, but I didn't have any discomfort while filming action scenes. It was more difficult to behave as if I was in pain when I wasn't. That's why I did that: I wanted to make it more realistic. I didn't do anything to damage myself, and I didn't."

"Han Hyo Joo practically lived at stunt school," he continued. That was really fantastic, I thought. She was working on synchronizing her movements and getting her hand acclimated to gripping a sword whenever I saw her. Not only was Hae Rang cool, but Han Hyo Joo was really cool when I saw her working so hard. She was continuously warming up on set, making sure her body didn't go stiff, and making sure she didn't forget what she had learned."

Kang Ha Neul is known throughout the industry for being unmistakably nice, kind, attentive, and upright. "This is actually something people ask me a lot," he added when asked if he ever felt weary by his notoriety. 'Don't you ever get tired?' a lot of people ask. 'If I worked really hard to look like that, if I had to work to do that, I'm sure I'd be quite stressed out.' But I'm not that kind of person. My only goal is to keep others from frowning because of me. I want everyone on set to have a good time. Instead of stressing me out, it makes me happy. Of course, I'd be lying if I said I'm never stressed. I de-stress by putting my thoughts in order. When I first get up in the morning and right before I go to bed at night, I lose track of time. That doesn't always alleviate my stress, but it certainly helps. It also inspires me to savor each day once more. It could stress me out if I lived with the idea that "I have to act like this to the people around me." But I don't have a lot of stress about it because I live comfortably and act easily with other people. Outside of work, I also don't meet many people. I’m a total homebody.”
