Tomorrow x Together gearing up for August comeback

They’ll release more moving and relatable songs on the 17th.

TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) is gearing up to make a comeback with the final album in their “Chaos” series.

On July 19, the five-piece boy group dropped a teaser for their upcoming album The Chaos Chapter: FIGHT OR ESCAPE, which will be released on August 17 under Big Hit Music. According to an announcement their label made on Weverse, this album will be a repackaged version of the group’s second studio album.

TXT’s upcoming comeback comes only three months after the release of The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE, which was met by worldwide acclaim. It was especially successful in the United States, where it went to No. 5 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. It went on to become the first K-pop album released in 2021 to spend five weeks on that chart.

The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE also made the Tastemaker Albums chart at No. 8,  the Top Album Sales chart at No. 4, the Top Current Album Sales chart at No. 3, and the World Albums chart at No. 2.

So far, they’re the only fourth-generation K-pop group that has achieved such milestones—and it’s probably because their music is very relatable. One of the key themes of their latest album is the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In a recent press release, their label described the songs on it as “stories of a boy who was frozen by the attacks of the world.”

“The Dream Chapter was about growth. It followed a boy who found his identity among his friends. Meanwhile, this album is about a boy who gets struck down by emptiness and fear as he loses all sense of normalcy due to what’s going on in the world. However, despite his problems, he meets someone special and falls in love for the very first time,” explains Soobin, the group’s leader.

The title track “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)” is about believing in the power of love, despite the fact that the world is falling apart while you’re plagued by doubt and sorrow. Co-written by HYBE chairman Bang Si-Hyuk, BTS’ leader RM, American artist Mod Sun, and produced by Big Hit Music’s in-house producer Slow Rabbit, it’s one of the most emotional and powerful songs TXT has released to date. It also marks their first-ever collaboration with another artist—Korean singer-songwriter Seori.

On “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You),” the group’s experiment with grunge rock brings invariably good results. The boys’ gritty, hard-hitting vocals are contrasted well with Seori’s soft, breathy tone. They won four music show trophies with this song. Because of its success, they released an acoustic version, for which they brought pH-1 and Woodie Gochild on board alongside Seori.

“It was an honor to work with such incredible artists,” Yeonjun says when asked for his thoughts on everyone who worked with them on this album. “I’d like to thank them for their contributions.”

All five TXT members had more creative control on The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE. Hueningkai, their maknae, co-produced “Dear Sputnik.” He also worked on “No Rules” with Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Yeonjun. Speaking of the group’s eldest member, he contributed to the lyrics of “Frost” while Soobin did the same on “Ice Cream.”

“We were all eager to be part of the process from the very beginning of our careers,” says Hueningkai. “As we honed our production and writing skills, we gradually gained more opportunities to expand upon and present our ideas.”

He reveals that the anthemic, rock- and synth-flavored “Dear Sputnik” was born of a sample he created years before he became a Big Hit Music trainee. “I sent it to our label with the file name ‘it’s just a sample.’ They reacted well to it, so I decided to develop it further. When it made the album, I was happy and pleasantly surprised.”

“The subjects we’ve addressed are relevant to many, regardless of age,” says Soobin. “We’ve had a lot of people tell us that they saw themselves in our songs, and for us, that’s a very touching thing to hear. We’re happy and thankful that people all from over the world can relate to our music. Moving forward, we want to continue to make music that can move people and reflect their thoughts and emotions.”

Although they didn’t say how many new songs MOAs will get to hear when The Chaos Chapter: FIGHT OR ESCAPE drops, those songs will definitely be moving and relatable. After all, that’s TXT’s trademark when it comes to music.
