South Korean UN Diplomat Assaulted in NYC

This is another case of rising crimes against Asians since the start of the pandemic.

According to the South Korean foreign ministry, a diplomat from the country was hurt after being attacked by an "unidentified guy" in New York on Thursday.

It appears that the man was attacked on a Manhattan sidewalk at random, as reported by the New York Post, who stated that the victim had been "slugged in the face."

Seoul stated that a diplomat working at the country's United Nations mission had been hurt in the incident.

On the evening of February 9, a diplomat linked with the United Nations mission in New York City was attacked by an unidentified assailant in downtown Manhattan and was injured, according to the foreign ministry.

It did not provide any information on the victim's age or gender, citing concerns about his or her privacy. A second statement said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will "encourage the local police to undertake a prompt and complete inquiry."

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, there has been an increase in anti-Asian violence in the United States.
