By forging tighter cooperation with Republic Records, K-pop behemoth JYP Entertainment hopes to broaden the international appeal of its performers Stray Kids and Itzy.
Republic Records, a prominent American music label owned by Universal Music Duo, announced on Thursday (US time) an expanded relationship with JYP that would begin with the K-pop girl group Twice in 2020 and will continue through 2022.
Under the terms of the extended collaboration, the US music agency will assist the international operations of JYP's artists, including Stray Kids and Itzy, on a worldwide scale.
With the release of Twice two years ago, JYP and Republic made a significant effect, allowing the nine-member group to expand their reach into the United States.
Twice has had albums in the top ten of Billboard's main albums list, with "Formula of Love: T+O=3" and "Taste of Love" being the most recent. Aside from the album, Twice released its first English-language song, "The Feels," which peaked at No. 83 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last year.
Jung Wook, CEO of JYP Entertainment, stated in a statement, "We are overjoyed to be moving forward with Republic Records, the most outstanding label in the United States, in growing the main artist roster of both organizations going forward, starting with Twice's successful kickoff."
Monte Lipman, the founder and CEO of Republic Records, has also suggested that the record label is likely to release further information about the two agencies' collaboration in the near future.
