Mnet releases profiles, videos for ‘Girls Planet 999’ contestants

Meet frontrunners Ezaki Hikaru, Huening Bahiyyih, and Roada Xu Ziyin.

Mnet finally released profiles for all the contestants participating in the upcoming survival show Girls Planet 999.

Of all the Chinese contestants, Roada Xu Ziyin is the most-talked about so far. Born in 1996, she studied at the prestigious Beijing Film Academy before she became a trainee. Her grandmother insisted she get a college degree before embarking on her dream to become a singer.

When she was younger, Roada passed auditions for Cube Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and SM Entertainment. But she turned them all down because her family wanted her to focus on her studies first. Now that’s over, she’s devoting everything she has to making her dreams come true.

During her time on Youth With You, Roada often took the main vocalist position. She’s a classically trained singer who’s well-versed in bel canto, a style of operatic singing.

Meanwhile, the Korean contestant that’s generating plenty of buzz is 16-year-old Bahiyyih (“Bah-hee-yeh”) Jaleh Huening, also known as Huening Bahiyyih. If her name—which means “dew full of light”—sounds familiar to you, that’s because she’s related to TOMORROW X TOGETHER star Hueningkai. She’s his younger sister.

She successfully auditioned for BE:LIFT LAB and YG Entertainment, but it’s unclear where she’s been training. Some believed she’d appear on the female version of I-LAND, but apparently that’s not going to be the case.

Bahiyyih speaks Korean, Mandarin (which will come in handy when she has to communicate with the Chinese contestants on Girls Planet 999). She’s also fluent in English—last year, she narrated the English version of the Mnet Asian Music Awards Worldwide Fans Choice introduction video.

She loves the color blue, oranges, pasta, strawberries, and the hit Disney movie Frozen. Bahiyyih’s also a sweetheart who once saved her allowance to buy Hueningkai a selfie phone, as TXT’s Taehyun revealed in a T:TIME video. Her hyung is just as supportive of her dreams as she is of his, as he talked about her in a recent live broadcast.

“Hiyyih will be on a survival show. She went through a lot, being a trainee at different places. I really hope she can debut through this opportunity and that I get to see her,” he said.

As for the Japanese girls, Ezaki Hikaru is turning people’s heads as the center for their performance of the show’s theme song. In Japan, Hikaru (who was born on March 12, 2004) was under the prestigious management company Avex Artist Academy. She’s 154.5cm tall and her MBTI type is ESFJ—the Consul type. Her hobbies include going to hot springs, and her specialty is rap. One netizen even called her “potentially the best rapper on the show.”

Girls Planet 999 will premiere on August 6, with several established girl group idols (like Cherry Bullet’s Bora) also among the contestants. The rest of the profile videos are on Mnet's official YouTube channel.
