The award-winning short film "Bargain," directed by Lee Chung-hyun, will be adapted into a television series. The long-awaited TV adaptation will star Jin Sun-kyu and Jun Jong-seo and will be produced by Climax Studio, which had a burst of popularity with "Hellbound" and "D.P."
Lee's short film from 2015, "Bargain," earned a number of awards, including the Jury Prize at the 33rd Busan International Short Film Festival, the Best Film Award at the 15th Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival in 2016, and the Best Short Film at the 11th Korean Film Festival in Paris (2017).
"Bargain" is a catastrophe thriller set in a community after a huge earthquake. The final survivors, who are locked in a building where they haggle for black market products such as human organs, are fighting for survival. Despite using references from the original film, the series will stand out by introducing new characters and plotlines.
Jin will play Hyung-su, a man on the point of death after becoming entangled in a crisis, which he miraculously survives thanks to the earthquake. The actor from "Through the Darkness" stated his enthusiasm for the new production.
"I have a feeling it's going to be a fantastic production, and when I learned it was going to be shot in one take, I knew I had to have the part," he said in a statement released by Tving. "I'm also excited to work with director Jeon Woo-sung, who was involved in the original film's production, and actress Jeon, who has a lot of enthusiasm."
Jin has acted in over 30 films, including "The Outlaws" (2017), "Extreme Job" (2019), and "Space Sweepers" (2019). (2021).
Jun will play Joo-young, who has played a variety of characters ranging from a psychopathic serial killer to a mystery missing woman. She is a mercenary broker who stumbles into a dark underworld and attempts to profit from the natural calamity.
"It's an honor to be part of the feature-length project of 'Bargain,' which has gained tremendous attention, and it means a lot to me to take on a position as one of the pillars of the project," Jun said, adding that the series has a fantastic plot that is both amusing and thought-provoking.
