In Japan, BTS has just created history!
In addition to its pre-existing certification systems for physical album shipments and digital download sales, the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) launched a new certification system for online song streaming in 2020. Songs are certified silver after 30 million streams, gold after 50 million streams, platinum after 100 million streams, and diamond after 500 million streams, according to the new method.
BTS's mega song "Dynamite" officially obtained a diamond certification in the streaming category after achieving 500 million streams in less than two years, according to the RIAJ's latest batch of certificates (dated January 2022).
Not only is BTS the first foreign artist to receive a diamond certification for streaming in Japan, but "Dynamite" is only the second song in RIAJ history to do so: Yoasobi's "Yoru ni Kakeru," which received the award last year, is the only other song to receive the honor.
BTS also obtained an official platinum certification for their song "Life Goes On," which has now crossed 100 million streaming in Japan, on top of this historic achievement.
After hitting 50 million streams, BTS' "Anpanman," TWICE's "Heart Shaker," ITZY's "Not Shy," and Shaun's "Way Back Home" were all officially declared gold.
