The winners of the 19th annual Korean Music Awards have been announced!
Unlike many other South Korean music awards, which often use sales data as a major consideration in picking each year's winners, the Korean Music Awards place a strong emphasis on musical achievement. In addition, the Korean Music Awards place a higher emphasis on albums and songs as a whole.
aespa took home the most accolades of any artist this year, with three in total, including two of the big four (the four main awards that span all music genres). Song of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Best K-Pop Song (for their big hit "Next Level") went to aespa.
BTS was named Artist of the Year for the third time in their career. (BTS created history when they became the first idol group to win Artist of the Year at the Korean Music Awards in 2018, and they did it again in 2019.)
Finally, with her critically praised album "There Is a Wolf," indie folk singer Lang Lee won Album of the Year.
