C9 Entertainment’s Bae Jinyoung is on a roll.
Not only is he preparing to make a comeback as the center, dancer, lead vocalist, and visual of boy group CIX, but he’s also getting ready for his close-up.
He has been tapped to play the male lead in an upcoming web series from WHYNOT Media titled The @ccount Has Been Deleted. It’s about two female high school students with the same name. In a misguided attempt to establish and live separate lives, they end up transferring to the same school. They decide to make the most of their predicament by switching identities.
Jinyoung will play Shin Yi Joon, Woojung High’s most popular student. He has been described as a “flower boy”—a Korean term that refers to the handsome boy-next-door in a drama who is very kind towards the female protagonist from the moment he meets her. Yi Joon comes off as feisty, but in reality he’s a goofy, soft-hearted individual who finds it very hard to take a stand in an argument or turn people down.
Founded in 2016 by Lee Minseok, WHYNOT Media is considered by some to be a pioneer in the world of web drama production. It was one of the first companies to focus on romances with ordinary people at the center of the stories. Back then, most web dramas’ stories were little more than custom-made star vehicles for K-pop idols.
Now that Jinyoung is officially on board, this newest offering of theirs will definitely make a splash when it premieres in November via KOKtv’s official YouTube channel.
While waiting to make his acting debut, Jinyoung has been preparing for CIX’s comeback with the rest of the group—BX, Hyunsuk, Seunghun, and Yonghee. On July 16 at midnight KST, they released the first of several concept photos in which they’re wearing sailor suits, looking as if they’re ready to set sail at any moment.
Jinyoung’s individual concept photo for this comeback was released last July 27. Check it out below.
CIX’s first full-length album OK Prologue: Be OK will come out on August 17. It will be their first release in five months, after their fourth mini album Hello Chapter Ø: Hello, Strange Dream and its lead single “Cinema” came out earlier this year. (CIX previously hinted that they plan to drop three albums in 2021.)
If you’re finding it hard to wait for Jinyoung and the boys to make their comeback, you can listen to the promotional single “TESSERACT,” which they released through the UNIVERSE app. Maybe that will tide you over till CIX returns. Co-produced by Minit and PENTAGON’s Hui, the song is a dance- and rock-flavored bop that’s completely unlike anything CIX has released before.
