BTS’ “Butter” added a fourth week at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It’s now the South Korean act’s longest-leading hit on the tally. Their first No. 1 hit “Dynamite” spent three weeks atop the same chart last year.
In the week ending June 17, “Butter” drew 12.5 million streams and sold 111,4000 downloads in the US alone. In the week ending June 20, it went on to attract 25.8 million radio airplay audience impressions, up 6% from its score the previous week.
“Butter” is one of only 54 songs to debut at No. 1 in the history of the Hot 100. It’s also the 13th to stay there for four straight weeks. If BTS and the ARMY can keep it there for another week, they will shatter the record set by Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” in 1998. Right now, the theme song from the movie Armageddon is the longest-running No. 1 debut by a group.
“Butter” has sold more than 100,000 copies in each of the four weeks it sat atop the Hot 100. Due to the current state of the American music industry, it’s rare for any song to get a six-digit sales count at any point. The fact that BTS managed to do so for four straight weeks says plenty about their ability to sell a song, not to mention their mass appeal.
