JAY B stays in the public eye as he prepares for his first solo EP

He appeared on a hit TV show and graced a magazine cover.

GOT7’s Jay B has been busy—which is to be expected, since he’s gearing up to drop his first solo mini album. It's also his first H1GHR Music release.

Not only did he grace the cover of tmrw.KOREA magazine, but Jay B also appeared on MBC’s King of Mask Singer. As Toad’s House, he showed off his warm vocal tone to great effect. Unfortunately, the show’s celebrity panel only awarded him 10 points, causing him to lose to his opponent. But he didn’t let that bring him down too much. When the time came for him to unmask himself, he put his best foot forward and delivered a brilliant rendition of Gummy’s “We Should’ve Been Friends.”

After his unmasking, GOT7’s former leader admitted that he was a little nervous about going on the show because of what happened to one of his new labelmates a while back.

“I moved to H1GHR MUSIC recently, and I saw that pH-1 got zero votes when he was here. I worried about what would happen if I also got zero votes. I was a bit nervous coming here. I’ve mostly promoted with dance tracks, so I thought of this show as a new challenge and came prepared with ballads,” he said.

His upcoming mini album probably won’t have many ballads, since Jay B is known for rapping. According to the tracklist of SOMO: FUME, it has a total of seven tracks, including “B.T.W” (featuring Jay Park, the head of his new record label) and “FAME,” a collaboration with singer-songwriter JUNNY. His previously released single “Switch it Up” will also be on the album, alongside features by MAMAMOO's Wheein, RB vocalist g1nger, and sokodom.

SOMO: FUME will be released on August 26.
