Nov. 22 is Designated as “Kimchi Day” in California
“Korea is the origin of kimchi… The popularity of kimchi is also related to the high interest in Korean culture such as K-pop and K-beauty.”

The California State Legislature became the first among the 50 states in the United States to designate November 22 as “Kimchi Day”. According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation (aT), the California state legislature unanimously passed a resolution to officially commemorate November 22nd as “Kimchi Day” in California.According to the resolution, “Korea is the cradle of kimchi, and its origins go back to the early days of the Three Kingdoms period. In 2013, UNESCO also recognized ‘kimjang’ as an intangible cultural heritage.” It was also reported that the popularity of kimchi in the United States is related to the high interest in Korean culture such as K-pop and K-beauty.California State Assemblyman Choi Seok-ho, who represented the resolution, said, "It was proposed to correct China's claim that kimchi is their traditional food."  Rep. Choi proposed a resolution designating November 22 as 'Kimchi Day' in cooperation with 12 organizations, including the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles, on May 21st.Accordingly, on November 22, various events related to kimchi such as kimjang are scheduled to be held. aT also decided to hold a 'Kimchi Festival' event in Los Angeles, California, on November 22, including a kimchi making experience.November 22nd is also 'Kimchi Day' in Korea. 11 various ingredients of kimchi, such as cabbage, radish, salt, and salted fish, has 22 effects such as lowering the incidence of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
