What you should know about K-beauty

Why the 10-step K-Beauty routine lives up to its hype

When you see actors, actresses, or idols with dewy skin, it's normal to be envious of their perfect, doll-like visuals. K-Beauty has been taking over the beauty world for a while now, and for good reason. People love the bright, dewy look and minimal makeup favored by South Koreans as it looks effortless and healthy.

In a nutshell, K-Beauty is all about practicing self-love by focusing on routines that hydrate, protect, and treat one’s skin. From an early age, South Koreans are taught all about the basics of skincare, which is why they grow up knowing the importance of cleansing, healthy eating, and using sunscreen.

K-Beauty is heavy on skincare routines that usually consist of 10 steps or products. These products depend on the brand in question, because some brands also involve cleansing, hydrating, exfoliating, moisturizing, and more. Others are only composed of four steps, which are perfect for those who find 10-step routines overwhelming or time-consuming.

K-Beauty routines have plenty of benefits. One of the greatest things about it is that most Korean beauty products are made of ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vitamin C, which are natural. K-Beauty’s many steps can fix all types of skin problems while focusing on nourishment. These steps also fight aging and reduce dark spots, which is why South Korean actresses such as Jun Ji-Hyun or Song Hye-Kyo still look young.

Does it mean that you only have to stick to a 10-step K-Beauty routine to get flawless skin? The answer is no; some prefer to stick to the basics like cleansing, moisturizing, treatment and using sunscreen.

Other Korean beauty brands have routines with fewer steps and involve fewer products to allow people with sensitive and oily skin to try K-Beauty without clogging their pores in the process. Today, K-Beauty brands have formulated skincare routines that cater to all skin conditions, lifestyles, and types.

K-beauty is making waves around the globe, especially in the western world, where they focus more on makeup. That’s the complete opposite of K-Beauty. Most western cosmetics have ingredients that can be harsh on the skin, such as formaldehyde, oxybenzone, parabens, salicylic acid, and more. Those ingredients can result in peeling, breakouts and allergic reactions.

South Koreans’ skincare culture is a breath of fresh air compared to what the western world does. It’s a great way to take care of your body's largest organ, which is your skin. If you're looking for a sign to try K-Beauty, this is it!
