1.BINGSU ( 빙수)

 

               

 

If you have never heard of this cold Korean dessert, you're in for a delicious treat. Bingsu is a shaved ice dessert, and there are a multitude of ways you can enjoy it.

 

The traditional way of eating bingsu is with red beans, sweetened condensed milk, and roasted multi grain powder. However, the sky's the limit with bingsu because you can put ice cream, crushed cookies, graham powder, different kinds of fruits like strawberries, blueberries, mango, watermelon, or any fruit that is in season in it. You can drizzle your bingsu with your sauce of choice. 

 

Bingsu is incredible on hot summer days to cool off. It is a crowd-pleaser and a great treat to share with friends and family.

2. SUJEONGGWA (수정과)

 

       

 

Speaking of cold desserts, this aromatic cinnamon ginger punch is a perfect addition to your must-try list! Although it can be consumed cold or hot, it is typically enjoyed cold after a hearty meal. It's not just tasty; it may also help with digestion.

3. HOTTEOK (호떡)

 

               

 

Hotteok is a filled pancake that is best eaten warm. This is perfect on a cold night on your way home from school or work. 

 

Bite into this golden pancake and discover the rich filling of brown sugar, crushed nuts, and cinnamon. The crushed nuts give it a little bit of a chew and add an exciting flavor to the treat. It is so comforting to eat and it's almost impossible to devour just one.

4. HODUGWAJA (호두과자)

 

                           

 

This is another popular street food. Hodugwaja is a small walnut-shaped snack filled with sweet red bean paste and walnuts. You can usually spot stalls that sell this on the street. It makes for the perfect afternoon snack or something to bring with you on a road trip.

5. GGUL TTEOK (꿀떡 )

 

                 

 

Ggul Tteok are steamed rice cakes that are sweet and chewy. Ggul tteok is translated as honey cakes because it is typically served with honey syrup, however, there are other varieties of this snack. Some enjoy it with sesame as well.

6. BUNGEOPPANG (붕어빵)

 

               

 

This is a hit with children because of how fun it looks! Bungeoppang is a fish-shaped pastry that is filled with either sweet red bean filling, custard, or chocolate. It is also best eaten warm and is a popular street food in Korea during winter. It is so satisfying to bite the soft bread and discover the flavors inside it. Bungeoppang is a comforting and filling dessert that just warms you up.
