BTS’s Jin to release his first-ever solo song for a drama

He was tapped to sing for the "Jirisan" OST.

BTS is ready to return to the small screen. Not as actors, mind you—but as the voices behind the theme songs of some upcoming dramas.

First up, their 2020 Japanese single “Stay Gold” will be featured in the drama Spiral Labyrinth. It was supposed to air last year, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, its pilot will air on October 15 instead. It stars Tanaka Kei, an MC of the show Music Blood—BTS appeared on that show back in June.

Meanwhile, Jin will be releasing his first-ever solo song for a drama. On October 1, the team behind tvN’s upcoming series Jirisan announced his involvement in the drama’s soundtrack. In a statement, they said, “BTS’s Jin sang one of the series’ main theme songs, and viewers will be able to listen to it toward the middle of the series. We will announce the official release date of the track at a later time.”

Jirisan is directed by Lee Eungbok (the same man who helmed classic K-Dramas like Descendants of the Sun and Goblin), from a script by writer Kim Eunhee, whose previous work includes Netflix’s Kingdom and Signal. Starring in the lead roles are top actors Jun Jihyun and Joo Jihoon.

Set against the backdrop of Mount Jiri, this drama follows the rangers and other employees of the Jirisan National Park as they attempt to find and rescue lost trekkers.

Seo Yikang (played by Jun Jihyun) is the park’s top ranger. One day, she becomes the partner of Kang Hyunjo (Joo Jihoon), an ex-lieutenant who graduated from a military academy. He decided to become a ranger after experiencing a terrifying incident on Mount Jiri. They soon get swept up in a mystery involving the mountain’s many visitors.

Check out the main poster for Jirisan below. It captures the differences between the two leads perfectly.

On the surface, they appear to have a lot of things in common. They both work at the park to guide wayward climbers to safety. But based on the poster, they’ll react differently to everything that will happen as Jirisan unfolds. For instance, Seo Yikang has a very determined look on her face, which is in stark contrast to Kang Hyunjo’s solemn expression. Also, both are surrounded by different things. Seo Yikang is surrounded by flames, while Kang Hyunjo is surrounded by ice and snow.

Finally, there’s a Korean phrase next to each of them. The phrase on Seo Yikang’s side of the Jirisan poster reads, “The place I could never return to after that day.” Meanwhile, the one on Kang Hyunjo’s side reads, “The place I could never escape after that day.”

Here are some stills of Jun Jihyun in character. Do you see how well she embodied Seo Yikang’s professionalism?

Along with the stills, the producers released a brief statement that said, “Please look forward to Jun Jihyun’s unrivaled presence on the vast stage of Mount Jiri.”

They also released stills of Joo Jihoon as the daring Kang Hyunjo.

The Jirisan producers said, “Joo Jihoon’s performance was powerful and three-dimensional.”

Jirisan will premiere on October 23 at 9:00 PM KST and will be available on Viki. Check out a teaser for this K-Drama below!
