On the afternoon of the 28th, the '2021 Republic of Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards' awards ceremony was held at the National Theater in Jung-gu, Seoul. It was held online to prevent the spread of Corona 19 and was broadcast live through Conjin One and The K-Pop YouTube channel.
Yeo-Jeong Yoon, the first Korean actress to win an Academy Award for her part in the film 'Minari,' received the Golden Crown of Cultural Merit, the highest honor bestowed on persons who have made significant contributions to culture and art. Her younger brother, former LG Arts Center CEO Yeo-soon Yoon, accepted the award on her behalf, and Yeo-Jeong Yoon voiced her emotions in a video.
"It's sad and terrible that I couldn't attend this magnificent occasion," Yoon Yeo-Jeong said in a video, adding, "I thought about the medal." I mistook it for a prize and wondered, 'Am I allowed to accept this honor?'
"But now that our nation is doing better, it isn't at war, and it's a popular culture and arts award, I decided it was fair to accept it," she said. "I'm hoping for the best. When I earned the Eunkwan Order of Cultural Merit, my mother was overjoyed. She died last year, and she would have been ecstatic if she could have been present. I'll be proud of it for the rest of my life."
Other celebrities like actors Kim Young-Cheol, Jung Woo-sung, singer Kim Yeon-Ja, Lee Jeok, producer Kim Tae-ho, writer Park Jae-beom, and voice actor Choi Su-min received the Presidential Citation.
