Resurgence ahead for K-pop live concert scene

Groups and soloists can perform for big crowds again

On June 11, the South Korean government announced that entertainment and sporting events can now have up to 4,000 attendees. Previously, they had set the limit at 99.

The government’s announcement was met with a sigh of relief from many entertainment companies. Since the pandemic began, all K-pop acts were unable to hold live concerts due to health and safety protocols. But now companies are gearing up for the return of the live concert scene.

Girl group Cosmic Girls aka WJSN is scheduled to hold a fan meeting for 350 fans at the YES24 Live Hall in Gwangjin District, Seoul. The event’s title is Welcome to WJSN’s House, and it was organized by online game developer NC Soft and its subsidiary KLAP. The fan community platform Universe is a project of KLAP.

According to its management company Woollim Entertainment, 10-piece boy group Golden Child will stage two concerts on July 17 and 18 at the Blue Square Mastercard Hall in Seoul. Both shows will also be streamed live for international fans.

Finally, soloist Ha Sungwoon, formerly of Wanna One, is preparing for a series of concerts across the country. He’s booked to perform at Seoul’s KSPO Dome this July 24 and 25, in Gwangju this July 31, and in Busan on August 7. He’ll end his tour in Daegu on August 21.

The easing of restrictions is seen as a win for the K-pop industry, which suffered a serious blow when COVID-19 began wreaking havoc.
