TXT’s Yeonjun on learning to love his own voice

He almost quit music because he hated the way it sounded

Tomorrow x Together’s Yeonjun is known as the “4th Generation It Boy” because he’s multitalented. He’s an excellent dancer, rapper, and singer. But did you know that there was a time when he didn’t like the sound of his own voice?

“Honestly, when I first learned how to sing, I hated my voice. I thought maybe I just shouldn’t sing at all,” he told Weverse magazine.

Luckily, his agency HYBE (formerly BigHit Entertainment) didn’t agree with him. They encouraged him to keep singing, telling him that his voice would stand out on the radio. Yeonjun took their advice and worked hard on his vocals.

“The label told me my voice had certain unique qualities that made it very special. I practiced a lot to be able to show off that uniqueness,” he says.

Yeonjun improved to the point that he topped their monthly evaluations for singing. Now, as part of Tomorrow x Together, he sings with so much confidence that it’s hard to imagine him as someone who once disiked the tone of his own voice.

“Now I know how to put my own spin on what I’m singing, so MOA often say my voice stands out too,” he says proudly.

The moral of Yeonjun’s story? Don’t be so quick to throw in the towel. If you think your voice is terrible, take lessons. Work hard to master your craft. His story is proof that practice really makes perfect.
