Korean Netizens Take Offense on International BLINKs and Their Subway Ads for Jisoo's Drama

Snowdrop has been leaving a bitter taste on their mouths because of the plot.

Snowdrop, a K-Drama starring BLACKPINK's Jisoo and actor Jung Hae In, is set to premiere in mid-December 2021 and has garnered a lot of attention. While fans are getting pumped for the show, it appears that they have ruffled the feathers of Koreans who have been vocal in their disapproval of the drama up until this point.

Earlier this year, Jisoonly Vietnam, a Jisoo fanbase, planned to set up beautiful digital advertisements to promote Snowdrop in subway stations throughout the city of Seoul. It is impossible to overstate the scope of the promotion, which includes a total of 30 screens! Passersby will be able to admire Jisoo's beauty, while Snowdrop will be enthralled with excitement.

However, it appears that some Korean civilians are dissatisfied with the promotional plans. As many people are aware, Snowdrop was the subject of considerable controversy when it was first teased throughout the year 2021. Many Koreans are opposed to the drama because they believe it has the potential to distort the depiction of historical events. There is also a very sensitive subject matter surrounding the democratic movement and riots, as well as the issue of North Korean spies, which many people believe should not be romanticized at this point in time.

The fact that many student protestors during the Democratic Struggle were unfairly tortured by military troops who used the pretext that these students were spies from the North drew widespread condemnation from the public at the time. In the event that the male lead is revealed to be an actual spy who is mistaken for a protestor, it would be considered a disrespect to the actual protestors who have died throughout history. Aside from that, there were some issues with the choice of a name for the female lead. The name Young Cho was also originally used in the synopsis, and it is an uncommon name that also happens to be the name of a historical figure who has played a significant role. Young Cho was a Korean activist who fought against authoritarianism during the 1980s. He was born in the United States. According to the most recent updates, Jisoo's character has been renamed Young Ro.

Despite the fact that JTBC has since issued a statement, it appears that the Korean public has not been deterred. Many people have heard about the advertisements and are considering filing a civil complaint to have them removed, or have already filed a civil complaint against them. Civil complaints can result in the government looking into the matter and ordering the removal of advertisements from the internet. A number of events have been canceled and advertisements have been taken down in the past as a result of complaints from fans.

Following the publication of the advertisements, Jisoonly Vietnam announced that they would be postponed indefinitely. This announcement came just days after the advertisements went live.

Before the announcement that the advertisements would be postponed, it appears that they were able to air them for a few days between November 25, 2021, and November 29, 2021, before the announcement that they would be postponed.

Perhaps after the drama is broadcast, the situation will be resolved and any misunderstandings will be cleared up.
