2021's Bloomberg 50 Includes HYBE's Bang Si Hyuk And "Squid Game" Director Hwang Dong Hyuk

There are only three Koreans in the list

On December 1, 2021, Bloomberg released their list of "The people and ideas that defined global business in 2021." The Bloomberg 50 is a list of top 50 people and ideas whose achievements and sucesses greatly helped shape the entertainment, finance, science, politics, and global business over the past year.

Three Koreans have made it onto the Bloomberg 50. HYBE founder Bang Si Hyuk, who is listed under the entertainment sector, was lauded for his excellence in being "the hitmaker behind BTS". HYBE's business move of merging with Ithaca Holdings, which manages Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and other artists, was also praised immensely.

Another Korean listed under the entertainment sector is director and screenwriter Hwang Dong Hyuk for helming and creating the series "Squid Game." The show is recently crowned as the most-watched series in Netflix history after being watched by more than 150 million people worldwide. The series spawned countless parodies and parties dedicated to its storyline. Its influence was staggering not only in South Korea but all over the world.

Lastly, Lee Hoe Sung is listed under the science and technology sector. Lee is the chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He was accredited for engineering over 200 countries to unanimous agreement on a report that the global temperature had risen by 1.1C, making the planet hotter than it's been in 125,000 years.

The full list of Bloomberg 50 can be found on Bloomberg's official website.

Congratulations to Bang Si Hyuk, Hwang Dong Hyuk, and Lee Hoe Sung!
