It's official. One of the most prestigious and beloved awards ceremony in the South Korean music industry, the Golden Disc Awards, has been announced to take place on January 8, 2022. The Golden Disc Awards has always been a highly-revered ceremony for fans and their favorite singers alike as the show is known to feature high-budgeted performances.
The location of the event is announced to be at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea. However, the people behind the awards show have decided to hold the event for just one day only unlike the usual two days. Last year, the ceremony took place only in an online contact mode where there is no audience and the fans could not attend the show personally. This year, the team behind the awards show has announced that there may be a possibility to invite a live audience but only after careful consideration of the COVID-19 situation in the country. A clean concert hall that adheres to the guidelines for social distancing and quarantine is the aim of the ceremony.
Nominees for the awards will be announced on December 8 at the Golden Disc Awards website. Candidates for the major categories will be chosen only on the basis of streaming counts and album sales. The final winners for the major catergoies will be chosen sixty percent (60%) based on sales counted until mid-December 2021 and forty percent (40%) on the basis of the scoring by the judge panel. The judge panel will include fifty (50) music industry specialists such as music journalists, music program producing directors, music critics, music distribution representatives, and the event's executive committee itself.
There will be no online voting to be considered in the judging criteria of major awards such as Disc Daesang (Grand Prize), Bonsang, and Best Rookie Artist so as to avoid the event from becoming a popularity awards. Nonetheless, the Popularity Award will remain to be one hundred percent (100%) based on fan votes.
The 36th Golden Disc Awards will be broadcasted live via JTBC, JTBC2, and JTBC4.
