A Korean Webtoon is Now a No.1 Bestseller in the New York Times List

This is the first-ever Korean webtoon to have made this stunning feat.

"Lore Olympus," a modern reinterpretation of Greek mythology, has risen to the top of the New York Times bestseller list, where it now stands at No. 1.

On Tuesday, Naver Webtoon announced that the comic will be included in the genre of graphic novels and manga.

Originally a romantic webtoon created by New Zealand artist Rachel Smythe, "Lore Olympus" was recently released in book form by HarperCollins Publishing.

When Naver Webtoon launched its English service in 2018, it also introduced a platform for amateur producers known as Canvas. The online comic was originally made available in 2018. After being serialized in August 2020, the tales of Hades and Persephone amassed more than 1.2 billion cumulative reads from fans around the world.

According to the webtoon company, the company's colorful illustrations and unique storylines captured the attention of readers all over the world, garnering 1.4 million South American subscribers and 5.4 million North American subscribers in the first month.

"The ascent of 'Lore Olympus' to the top of the bestseller list demonstrates the growing popularity of webtoons in the American market," said Kim Hyung-il, co-CEO of Naver Webtoon parent company Webtoon Entertainment, in a press release issued on Tuesday.

At the 2021 Harvey Awards, which were held in October, Smythe's Greek romance-fantasy series was nominated for an Eisner Award, which is regarded as the Academy Awards of the comics industry. It was also named digital book of the year at the 2021 Harvey Awards, which were held in October.

The 384-page book is merely the first volume of the popular webtoon, which collects the first 25 episodes of "Lore Olympus." The book is simply the first volume of the famous webtoon. The second book will be published in May 2022, according to the schedule.
