BTS will release a remix of their smash hit “Butter” featuring American rapper and songwriter Megan Thee Stallion.

According to the South Korean group’s agency BigHit Music, the award-winning artist was really fascinated with the original version of the song, so she readily agreed to participate in the remix. But it almost didn’t see the light of day because her own label attempted to block its release.

On Tuesday, August 24, Stallion filed a petition in Harris County, Texas against 1501 Certified Entertainment and its CEO Carl Crawford. As per the documents—in which Stallion is referred to by her birth name Megan Jovon Ruth Pete—she sought “emergency relief from the Court before this Friday, August 27, to allow her new music to be released this week as previously scheduled.”

“If Pete is not allowed to release a new track this Friday on which she is the featured artist in a remix with BTS of the song called, ‘Butter,’ her career will suffer irreparable damage, including a devastating impact to her relationships with her fans and other recording artists in the music industry,” the documents state. “Such irreparable injury to her personal goodwill and the silencing of her artistry in music cannot be compensated by way of monetary damages. As such, Pete seeks emergency relief from this Court.”

“The release of new music from Pete is vital to maintain her status as a relatively new but still up and coming artist,” the documents add. “Absent immediate help from the Court, Pete’s art will be impacted, the release of the song derailed, and Pete’s goodwill, reputation, and overall career will suffer detrimental, undesirable, and irreversible harm.”

This isn’t the first time Stallion has had a legal disagreement with 1501. Last year, she sued the label for allegedly preventing her from releasing the EP Suga and was granted a temporary restraining order—which she said will be violated if the label successfully prevents her from releasing the “Butter” remix.

On the morning of August 25, a judge ruled in Stallion’s favor, paving the way for the release of the “Butter” remix this Friday. However, Stallion remains under contract to the label, with her recordings distributed by 300 Entertainment. She's actively trying to get out of her contract, though. A separate case is ongoing.

Meanwhile, another hip-hop artist has said she wants to work with BTS. Missy Elliott—a legend in the American music scene—replied to a tweet from a fan who asked if she’d be open to collaborating with RM and the rest of the group. Elliott responded, “Of course, that would be their call. I'm down for sure.”

Fans erupted in excitement, saying things like, “We’re down too,” “Please get Timbaland to produce a song for you and BTS, that’s my dying wish,” and “A collaboration between you and BTS would be amazing.”

“Butter” featuring Megan Thee Stallion will be available on Friday at 1:00 PM KST (Korean Standard Time) and 12:00 AM EST (Eastern Standard Time).
