The winners of the American Film Institute's 2021 AFI Awards have been announced, and "Squid Game" was the only foreign TV show among this year's honors!
The American Film Institute (AFI) selects ten excellent films and ten outstanding television series each year to win its annual AFI Awards, which are "deemed culturally and aesthetically reflective of this year's most significant achievements in the art of the moving image."
The American Film Institute also decided to give out "Special Awards" to commemorate works of art that did not meet the requirements for the AFI Awards. The Korean series "Squid Game" got an AFI Special Award for 2021, making it the only foreign television program to receive an AFI Award this year. The AFI Awards are intended to recognize excellence in American film and television.
On January 7, 2022, the awardees of the 2021 AFI Awards will be honored at a special private celebration.
Congratulations to the cast and the whole team behind Squid Game!
